Mudmee Thai Restaurant
If you're strolling through the bustling lanes near Liverpool Street and craving a taste of Thailand done right, Mudmee Thai Restaurant on Artillery Passage is one of those hidden gems that surprises you in the best way. It’s tucked away just enough to feel like a discovery, but once you're in, the aromas hit you - lemongrass, chili, garlic, and something char-grilled that makes your stomach growl.
The vibe inside Mudmee Thai is casual yet inviting, with that distinct coziness that makes it a popular spot for both solo diners and groups catching up over spice-laden bites. The staff know their stuff, too - they're quick to recommend if you're overwhelmed by choices, which honestly can happen fast here. With a menu packed full of classics and regional specialties, this place goes way beyond your average Thai joint.
Let’s talk food - the real star. For many, the Pad Thai Chicken is the go-to, and for good reason. It’s that perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and nutty, with a generous heap of chicken and just the right amount of wok char. But if you’re up for something richer, the Khao Soi is phenomenal - Northern Thai curry noodle soup that’s creamy, slightly spicy, and topped with crispy noodles for that satisfying crunch.
Seafood lovers won’t want to skip the Steamed Scallops or the Pla Teriyaki Salmon. The scallops are delicately cooked, sitting in a subtle broth that lets the sweetness of the shellfish shine, while the salmon brings a Japanese-Thai fusion touch - flaky, slightly smoky, and brushed with just enough teriyaki glaze to keep things interesting.
For starters, the Stuffed Chicken Wings are a table favorite - deep-fried to golden perfection and stuffed with minced meat and glass noodles. The Spring Rolls and Steamed Dumplings also deliver, both fresh and nicely portioned if you're sharing or just building up to a main. Pair that with a tall glass of Iced Thai Milk Tea or the more traditional Thai Iced Tea, and you’re in for a refreshingly authentic combo.
One of the more unique offerings here is the Gang Gai Marlow Chicken Curry - a flavorful curry made with wax gourd, lime, chili, and creamy coconut milk. It’s the kind of dish that makes you pause between bites to appreciate how all the flavors mingle. It’s bold, comforting, and very likely something you won’t find on most Thai menus in London.
There's also Tom Yum Goong - that fiery hot and sour soup loaded with prawns, mushrooms, and herbs that will clear your sinuses and leave you wanting more. For a heartier experience, go for the Mee Goreng or Nasi Goreng, both solid options when you're after something filling and punchy.
Another nice touch? The drink selection. Alongside staples like Singha Beer, you’ll find wine, spirits, and even decent coffee if you’re not in the mood for alcohol. There’s something about having a proper Thai meal with an icy Singha or a bold red that really ties the experience together.
What sets Mudmee Thai apart isn’t just the variety on the menu, but the consistency - whether you’re popping in for a quick bite, lingering over dinner, or grabbing a comforting meal to take away. Everything feels thoughtfully prepared, from the seasoning to the plating.
Despite not having a wheelchair-accessible car park, the restaurant remains welcoming with dine-in, takeaway, and delivery options - great if you're craving Thai food from the comfort of your home.
And yes, they serve small plates, so you don’t have to commit to a full dish if you just want to nibble your way through flavors. Plus, there are healthy options for those looking to keep things light but still tasty.
From soulful curries and stir-fries to street-style snacks and rich noodle bowls, Mudmee Thai Restaurant delivers a menu that respects Thai culinary roots while giving it a polished, London-ready touch. It's one of those places where you can taste the love in every dish, whether you’re a Thai food purist or just looking to eat really well.
Reviews
Located in the alleyway, this Thai restaurant still draws a good crowd during lunch, without service charge and an express menu, it’s quite the proposition Manned by Thais, the food was very authentic, but we couldn’t seem to see a basil pork in the menu this time around and opted for a stir fry pork variant of sorts - came up to £11 with rice and egg. Tom yum was also great, wasn’t too sour and had a good mix of flavour - one of the better ones I had. Definitely will return to try their other selection in future!
I have been here a few times, the first time was 15 years ago, good to see it’s still here on Artillery lane, serving up reliably serving up the same menu. Quick lunch time service and friendly staff.
Amazing food truly authentic thai, we had 5 dishes and were impeccable, I felt in Thailand. I’ll definitely come back to eat more dishes! Thanks guys! (If i can personally give an advice is to do something for the smell inside the restaurant, because might ruin somebody experience)
First time in London, went to this restaurant for dinner as it was close to our accommodation. We ordered Green Thai curry with 2 portions of sticky rice and Pai Thai noodles with chicken. Service time was super quick. Food was tasty, specially the green Thai curry. The Pad Thai noodles, however was a bit too oily and also the portion size could be better, it was quite less. Total bill was 30 pounds. The place is a bit small, we had our baby and stroller with us, it was a bit tight to fit in the stroller around the table. But otherwise okay, overall satisfactory experience (mainly for the food).
Great food, especially the Thai green chicken curry and coconut rice. Portion sizes were very good, and there was more than enough. The service was great. They found us a table late on a Friday evening with no reservation. Would visit again
